Looking for a fun cycle challenge this summer? Fancy helping to raise some money for a good cause? Or maybe you just want to get a closer look at Kerr’s calves? Whatever your motivation, if you are able to cycle c. 100 miles in a day at around 14 mph, then we would love to have you along for the ride. We are opening the registration for you to join the ranks of the GBCBs – the Great Big Cycle Buddies.
For each of the 12 days we are on the road, we are opening up a limited number of slots for friends (old and new) to join us. In return for helping drag our weary bodies round the country, we promise to deliver the highest quality banter, snacks and even a goody bag!
Although this is a fun event, we have two serious goals – to finish the event and, more importantly, to raise money for Cystinosis Foundation UK. As such, we would ask that you have a good level of cycle fitness, so that you can cover the required distance at an average of at least 14 miles per hour. We will also ask for a small admin fee of £25 to cover costs and that you commit to raising at least £250 for the charity.
You can register by sending us a message via the Contact Us page and including your home address and the stage you'd like to do in the message box. If you're a member of a cycle club or a CTC member, please include details. Please note : numbers are strictly limited so registering via the website does not guarantee a place. You will be contacted via email to confirm whether you are one of the lucky few!
The start and end points of each day, as well as a short description of the route, are listed in the route section of the website. The overnight stops are:
Most of the admin fee goes on insurance, which we will organise. We will also send you a bag of goodies and entry pack, as well as feeding you on the day.
On the 24th of May, the final day of the Great Big Cycle, we will pass through our home town of West Linton, just 17 miles from the finish line. The limit on riders will be increased for this final section of the ride, which we are fondly calling the Great Big Cycle’s Little Cycle. Registration for this is done through the Contact Us page, as with all other days.
